While browsing around in a feeble attempt to find more Marter-ness out there (I mean, I can't be the ONLY person who ships those two... right? RIGHT?? =p), it has come to my attention that apparently Marter shippers are perceived to put them together "just to get them out of the way".

Gah. I'm offended. For the record, personally I've never felt like they were actually IN the way. A distraction, yeah. But I think canon was pretty clear (and by "canon" I exclude the Beyond comics since it's made it impossible for itself to coexist with the DCAU), and though I'm disappointed that JLU was canceled before HG/GL resolved their relationship (and that it was canceled at all :(), I never felt like we were left guessing about HG/GL ending back together. HOW they were gonna get back together, that was pretty open for interpretation, by good fanfic writers and bad fanfic writers (*cough* Warhawk origin *cough*) alike...

Somewhere along the countless fics swirling in my already overcrowded mind waiting to be written, the Marter crack-ship came along. But they didn't come about for the sake of being a desperate, cheap plot device. They came about because

1. I like random craziness, ridiculousness, and absurdity.

2. The more I kept thinking up fic scenarios (as if that's what I should be doing when I haven't even written the ones I have yet) and interacting and playing them off each other in my head, the less random, crazy, ridiculous, and absurd their relationship seemed. And well... I like that too.

3. John & Shayera can get themselves back together and stay together just fine what with them and their exes acting like mature adults and all.

Anyway. A link led me to tvtropes.org where I was like :jawdrop: reading about all the plot terms I never even knew existed! And where I found this term: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

Personally I've never been into shipper wars (no matter which fandom) and when I write, it's important to me to try to stay true to canon and characters, regardless of any of them possibly occupying the wrong romantic space... I'd never try to derail a character or kill it off... unless of course it's one of my nutty parodies, then all bets are off =p but anyway...

Now scroll down to western animation examples, het ships, and this I really need to quote here:

"Surprisingly, there's little to none of this immature behavior in Justice League fandom, despite the Love Triangle between Shayera/Hawkgirl, Mari/Vixen and John/Green Lantern. Maybe it's helped by how, yanno, the three act more or less like adults in canon about it? Then again, it is also canon that Rex/Warhawk is Shayera and John's Kid from the Future, so maybe the GL/HG fans don't feel that threatened since they know Mari will be out of the picture later without any need to derail her."

All I gotta say is

1. No, I didn't write that paragraph.

2. This just proves once again how awesome and superior the DCAU and especially JL/JLU are.

3. In your faces, "Warhawk origin" writers.

Well now back to the original point...

There needs to be more Marter out there! :eager:
